Spam Spam Spam

It’s crazy how many spam blogs are being created here.  I’ve been avoiding installing a Captcha system, and just banning e-mails and taking down the spam blogs manually, but it’s becoming too much.  Expect soon to see a Captcha verification on registration. Ugh…

The problem is a lot of the spam accounts are being created with e-mail addresses from legitimate services like Gmail, so I can’t even block the e-mail domain.  I do actually wonder how they’re registering the Gmail accounts, assuming the Gmail accounts are created automatically.  Invitations I suppose?? Last I checked Gmail has that SMS verification otherwise… And I dislike IP address banning for a variety of reasons - including that IP addresses often change, so it could also end up banning an innocent user; for the same reason it might not even block the intended user from reaching the site.

Captcha is not all that bad, is it?

Captcha Example

Edit: Looks like Google removed the SMS verification for registering new Gmail accounts.
